Which portaloo is right for me? A flushing or non-flushing portaloo?

One of the most commonly asked questions we get is which portaloo is the right one for me? A flushing portaloo or non-flushing portaloo?

There are a few factors that play into which toilet is going to be right for your application. The first few questions we tend to ask include:

  • Who is going to be using the portaloo?
  • Is the portaloo for a construction site or a personal event?
  • What is your budget?

Lets elaborate a little on the questions:

  • Who is going to be using the portaloo?

Are you organising a toilet for contractors coming on your site or is this for your family? Generally speaking if you’re providing toilet facilities for contractors there is no need to go overboard and spend unnecessary money. Basic toilet facilities in the form of a non-flushing portaloo will do just fine.

  • Is the portaloo for a construction site or a personal event?

Quite often when we hire out portaloo’s for personal events such as weddings, funerals or weekend parties we recommend going with the nicer option of a flushing portaloo. The flushing units hide the contents of the holding tank and provide a more pleasant experience. However if you’re providing toilet facilities for tradies we don't see the point in spending the extra, basic toilet facilities will do just fine. We recommend a non-flushing portaloo in that circumstance.

  • What is your budget?

There is a reasonable price difference between a flushing portaloo and a non-flushing portaloo. If you’re hiring the portaloo for a construction project you might be very price driven and hence you’re better off picking the cheaper option (non-flushing toilet). However if you’re hiring this for a personal event or for a family with children we recommend spending a little extra and opting for a flushing portaloo.
