Portable Site Toilets and their 5 Benefits

Site establishment is an important part of any construction project and it’s important to get all the correct facilities in place for workers and sub-contractors. Often a portable site toilet, aka portaloo, is overlooked, but in reality it’s a necessity for workers.

Generally speaking during the first 80% of a new build there won’t be any plumbed toilets on site, and quite often project managers don’t want workers with muddy boots using permanents toilets. That means unless a portable toilet has been organised workers will have to go off site if they need the loo.

Apart from the obvious benefit of having toilet facilities on site for workers there are other benefits too:

  • Portable site toilets are a legal requirement

It is a legal requirement to provide toilet facilities for workers, if no permanent toilets are available then the next best option is a portable site toilet. The general rule of thumb is 10 full time workers (40 hours a week) per portable toilet if serviced on a weekly basis.

  • Portable site toilets lead to increased productivity

Avoiding constant trips to a gassy for toilet breaks will mean your workers spend more time on the job. Portable site toilets are right there on site, workers can use them whenever needed and don’t have to time toilet breaks in with their smoko or lunch breaks. Or worse an emergency toilet break!

  • Portable site toilets ensure hygiene and sanitation standards are met

Especially with COVID being around now there is a big emphasis on hygiene and sanitation. Most portable toilets have either soap with basis or hand sanitiser units in them, this provides a quick effective solution to keeping up personal hygiene..

  • Portable site toilets minimises invasion for the client

Often new builds on a subdivided section or renovations can be enough of an invasion for a client, having tradesman go into their property to use a toilet is often too much. Portable toilets mean that workers on site don’t have to bother the client and have toilet facilities just for them and the subbies.

  • Portable site toilets are eco-friendly

There is a lot of talk about being eco-friendly, looking after our planet and a portable site toilet plays just into that. They use less water than traditional bathrooms, the same toilet is reused on multiple sites across its life – reusable at its best.

While permanent toilets are always the best option, portable site toilets are a very good alternative and really the only option at times.
